Why the Y?

The YMCA (Young Men's Christian Association) was founded by George Williams in 1844 "to influence young men to spread the Redeemer's Kingdom amongst those by whom they are surrounded."  Still to this day the Y's mission is "to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all."

When we started The Fields Church, we truly desired to be “A Church In The World.”  We wanted to be people who were intentional about taking the Gospel to the world and community we live in.  In the New Testament, Christian missionaries would begin in the major gathering points of the city with a desire to spread the hope of Jesus Christ to as many people as possible.

The Y is a type of local "well" in that the local community gathers there regularly.  Not only that, but there is a wide diversity of age, ethnicity, languages, education, socio-economic levels, and religious backgrounds represented at the Y. With over 56,000 members, the Arlington Mansfield Area YMCA has a unique opportunity to reach people with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Ymca fouder

So, we have partnered with the AMA YMCA since 2011 to lift high the “C” of YMCA.  Click here to read more about our history at the Y.  Since its founding, the Y has consistently partnered with churches in an effort to accomplish their mission.  We love their mission statement and are intentionally partnered with the Y to help them accomplish this mission, while at the same time accomplishing our vision to be a church in the world!  We desire to intentionally bless the community of the Y and to be a source of hope, joy, and servanthood in our city.

Want to know more about church in the YMCA? Click here or check out The CITY Movement! The CITY (Church In The Y) Movement is a group of like-minded churches committed to exalting Jesus and planting churches in YMCAs across the world. Pastor David Newman at Antioch Church has been leading this movement for over a decade and was influential at helping us plant The Fields in 2011!

Sundays at the Y

We gather for worship every Sunday at 10am at the Cooper St. YMCA.

How else do we help the Y?

We accomplish this in several different ways and hope to always be thinking about new ways to allow the Gospel to penetrate different areas of life at the Y.

  • Prayer boxes and signage at the Y
  • Gospel focused activities at all Y events
  • Free Gospel centered resources at the Y
  • Consistent presence at the Y, Y events, Y sports leagues, etc.
  • Serving on the Y Board, Advisory Board, and task force teams
  • Connecting other churches to the mission of the Y
  • Blessing the staff at the Y
  • Worship service and many church gatherings at the Y
  • Planting other churches in local Y's
  • New enrichment classes and chaplaincy program at the Y
