WHO ARE YOU?

Hi there! My name is Megan Tanner.

WHAT DO YOU DO?

I am a Mission Mobilizer with Africa Inland Mission. I served overseas with AIM from 2016-2020 as a teacher and dorm parent at Rift Valley Academy in Kenya. When the Lord led me back to Texas, he opened the door for me to continue working with AIM, but now in the role of mobilizing missionaries who feel called to work among the unreached in Africa. I am also currently studying at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary to get my degree in Biblical Counseling! When I was living in Kenya, I realized I needed and desired to be more equipped with the tools to counsel and build up the church with Scripture. When I am not working or doing school, I enjoy being with friends and family! I also love having people over to my home to share good food, games, movies and fun!

WHERE DID YOU COME FROM?

I was originally born in New York and my family moved around a lot while growing up, but I consider Texas home!

WHEN WERE YOU SAVED?

I was blessed to be raised in a Christian family that sought to make church and faith a priority. I became a believer at a young age and although I don't have a lot of memories of my life before Christ, I remember being aware of my need for Him to be my savior and that it was not something I could do on my own. When I went to college, my relationship with the Lord grew as I was discipled by godly women, learned how to share my testimony and the gospel with others, and grew in my knowledge of global missions.

HOW HAS THE GOSPEL IMPACTED YOU RECENTLY?

Growing up, my understanding of the gospel was mostly in how it was needed for salvation. It wasn't until I was much older that I more clearly understood how essential the gospel is to the believer throughout their life. I can be tempted to strive and work for God's love and approval everyday...but the truth of the gospel sets me free to walk in assurance and faith that Christ alone has made the way for me to be restored into a right relationship with the Father. I am also more and more convinced and in awe that true hope and joy can only be found in Christ and the good news of the gospel that we read in God's Word. Knowing that the Bible is sufficient to lead and guide us with all that we need for salvation and sanctification (2 Peter 1:3, Hebrews 4:12) helps me run to that truth when my circumstances, feelings, or the world says something different.  I am thankful for the Holy Spirit's progressive work of sanctification in my life over many years and I am thankful that He promises to continue that work in us!

WHY ARE YOU AT THE FIELDS?

I was first drawn to The Fields because Bryan and Joy, my sister, reached out while I was living in Frisco and asked if I would pray about joining them in starting this church plant in Mansfield. The Lord opened the door quickly and I moved down and planted some roots here. I loved getting to see a different picture of church as we got together in different homes to pray and live out our faith with intentionality. I loved getting to serve in different ministries with others as a part of our local church. When I moved overseas, I saw a different part of The Fields as many prayed for, supported, and cared for me from afar. Now, having returned from Kenya, I am at The Fields because I love the way the Lord has used this local body of believers in my own life-growing me, challenging me, discipling me, and edifying me!
